Cindy Lee Van Dover

Professor, Duke University

Dr. Cindy Van Dover is a deep-sea scientist with expertise in the ecology of chemosynthetic ecosystems.  She was a pilot of the deep-submergence vehicle Alvin and in her subsequent career as a scientist, has led numerous expeditions with Alvin and with remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles, including Jason, Nereus, and Sentry.  Van Dover is currently working in the emergent field of deep-sea environmental management.  She is a Distinguished Professor at Duke University and holds an honorary degree from the University of Bergen, where she is currently the Fulbright Arctic Chair.
