Kangsoo Kim is currently the head of AUV R&D group, National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) of Japan. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Seoul National University in 1992 and 1994, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Environmental and Ocean Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2003. Prior to joining NMRI, he was with Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), the University of Tokyo and NTT Communication Science Laboratories, NTT. As the chief, he completed two AUV-based bottom survey missions successfully, by deploying a survey unit consisting of multiple AUVs surveilled by an ASV.
